to declutter your workspace
What are some creative and efficient ways to organize and declutter your work-from-home office area? What are the best desk storage products out there?
These products are guaranteed to provide essential desk storage space and efficiency in your small office workspace. Any desk, large or small, can benefit from these key desk tools.
#1 Hooks for Headphones
When desk space is limited it is helpful to utilize the wall space around you. This can be done with hooks on the wall next to your space to store the items you regularly use such as headphones.
In my experience, it is extremely useful: anytime you are at your desk working and need to hop on a zoom call you can just reach over and grab your headphones.
This can also work with other things such as keys, an umbrella, or other things that need to be readily available and can be hung up.
The hooks next to your work-from-home space can come in a few options: the IKEA pegboard or command hooks are both excellent options.
A pegboard is a great option if you also want additional desk storage in the form of extra hooks or cups. However, it can look bulky and ruin an aesthetic.
A command hook is simple and clean and can for in small corners or nooks that a pegboard can’t.
#2 Added Drawer
When you have a small workspace and are in desperate need of hidden desk storage, an extra drawer comes in handy. This product, for example, can stick underneath any surface which can drastically expand the storage space under any desk – especially a DIY one.
#3 Computer monitor stand
Having your computer monitor sitting on your desk itself is problematic for a few different reasons:
Firstly, and most important to this article, it takes up valuable real estate on your desk. It really gets in the way and prohibits more storage space on your already cluttered desk. It also just looks messy and bulky. When the monitor is lifted off of the desk it creates a clear space and you can actually see the desk counter. This creates the illusion that your desk space is much cleaner than it is.
Secondly, it can actually be detrimental to your posture. You should refer to a Physical Therapist or other professionals in the field for details. But the height at which your monitor sits can have a great impact on the strain you place on your neck and back. Ideally, you want to be looking ahead of you; not up and not down.
These problems can be fixed by elevating your computer monitor with a monitor desk mount. This is the one that I have and it works amazingly!
#4 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
One of the best additions I made to my small desk is this wireless keyboard. It is simple and makes the desk much easier to clean.
Not only is the space much cleaner, but my fidgeting self can shift around with the keyboard with ease.
If I want to put my legs up on the desk and type on my lap, I can. If I want to stand on my head and type upside, I can. Obviously, a slight exaggeration but the fact still remains. This extra feature of a wireless keyboard is super beneficial for someone who can’t sit still for so long.
This is the one I have and I am absolutely IN LOVE with it! It’s aesthetically pleasing, sounds amazing, and is super battery-efficient!
#5 Wire Organizer
With all of the wires around your desk space, it’s extremely helpful to have a method of organizing the wires around your workspace. This organizational hack will help keep your desk, both on top and below, clear.
Either one of the options below will help to organize your desk – it just depends on the size, shape, and orientation of your desk and workspace.
Bonus: Coffee Warmer
It doesn’t necessarily help with a particular desk storage issue but this product is one of the most beneficial things I have bought for my work-from-home style life. A slow coffee drinker like myself can get frustrated that by the time you reach the bottom quarter of your cup, your drink is already cold. This product allows me to drink my coffee over the course of a few hours while providing a coaster – a safe place to ensure I won’t spill anything.
